Haier Air Purifiers
Haier is an international supplier of household appliances headquartered in the people’s Republic of China and is currently considered the world’s largest white goods manufacturer. Founded in 1920 as a refrigerator factory, it was turned into a state-owned enterprise in the 1950s, which was foundering until the 1980s when a German company, the Liebherr Group, stepped in and diversified the Haier brand. Haier has since become the most recognized Chinese name brand and has extended their market from household appliances to mobile phones and computers and established worldwide distribution.
Air Purification Products, Pricing, and Warranty Info
Haier makes three models of air purifiers, all of which are Association of Home Manufacturers (AHAM) certified and the two larger models are ETL/CELT certified. All three models contain TrueHEPA filters that can remove 99.97% of the particles down to 0.3 microns. Each model has the same basic filtration setup that combines the pre-filter with the carbon filter to help remove odors and trap large particles, lint and hair as well as the main HEPA filter.
Each size Haier air purification unit has a 3-speed fan, all with quiet operation motors, and plastic grills that feature a 45° angle for the air outlet. The fan should be lowered to a Level 1 before turning off. The Haier HAPM100 air purifier sells for around $50, the HAPE200 retails for $100 to $125 and the HAPE 300 can be found for $200 to $250.
Haier offers a replacement filter pack that contains 2 carbon pre-filters and 1 TrueHEPA filter that can service the unit for 1 year and cost about $20 per pack. The two larger units come with a 1 year warranty for parts and labor and all three have a 5 year warranty for the sealed system.
Haier Air Purifier Models
- HAPM100 – Covering 107 square feet, this model has a convenient front grill hand grip for moving the small unit to the perfect position. Measuring 14″ tall, 15″ wide and almost 8″ deep, this 12 lb. unit comes with a 5 year limited warranty on the sealed system. The LCD electronic display control panel contains an ON/OFF slider switch which also allows you to select the fan speed and has a simple filter change counter.
- HAPE200 – Designed to filter the air in a room up to 200 square feet, this medium-sized air purifier measures 18″+ tall, 18 1/8″ wide and 7 7/8″ wide and weighs 16 1/2 lbs. Instead of an ON/OFF slider on the LCD electronic display control panel there is an “ON” (+) button to activate the unit and to increase fan speed and an “OFF” (-) to decrease speed down to Level 1 and turn off the unit. The display also includes an animated blower speed adjustment dial. This model contains an aroma compartment that is designed to be used with Pleasant Valley Aroma Gel Canisters that are sold at the same locations as the air purifiers.
- Located on the control panel is “child lock indicator” and two filter life counters; one for the carbon pre-filter and the other for HEPA filter since they run on different cycles. The filter counters need to be reset when you chained to filters, but they can maintain their data even if unplugged. Instructions for resetting these counters are included in the manual.
- HAPE300 – Weighing 16 pound lbs., this unit measures 19″+ tall , 18 1/8″ wide and 8 7/8″ deep and provides coverage for a 300+ square foot room. The LED control panel features all of the controls listed above for the HAPE200 but has a Power Button to turn on the unit and the “ON” (+) and “OFF” (-) functions can be used to adjust the fan as well as the animated rotary dial. This unit also includes a whisper quiet motor (42 decibels) and and on/off 24 hour timer. It also includes the aroma compartment and a convenient handle in the plastic grill for changing the filters.
- This unit features a remote control that can be used for all features except the child lock key pad, which must be done manually. There is a small paper insert in the bottom of the remote control that must be removed before the unit will work and can be discarded.
