The Honeywell 16200 Desktop HEPA Air Purifier is intended for smaller rooms. It uses HEPA-Type filter that cleans 99% of airborne particles from the air. It’s excellent for removing pet dander, mold, dust and pollen from the air.

It can be put on a table or the floor. Can be placed horizontally or vertically to save space. It’s also pretty handy if you want to take air purifier with you when you travel.

It has a four-stage cleaning process containing a washable pre-filter, HEPA-type filter, carbon filter to absorb household odors and an ionizer. If all you need is a basic economy model, this model can’t be beat on the price.

Since it has only a HEPA-type filter, it will not be as efficient at removing the smaller particles as small as 0. 3 microns like a True HEPA filter.

Honeywell 16200 air purifier will make a difference in your household or office. It will significantly reduce exposure to allergies and diseases coming from the air as particles.

Honeywell 16200 also features ProTecTM which is antimicrobial treatment to prevent mold growth on the filter. Another feature is Electronic check reminder to let you know when the filter needs replacing. This feature is helpful. But don’t worry, replacement filters are cheap.

Honeywell Model 16200 incorporates a 4-stage cleaning system to help clean the air that passes through the filter in the unit:

Stage 1: Washable Particle Pre-Filter
Stage 2: Odor-Lock Carbon Filter
Stage 3: 99% HEPA Filter with ProTec antimicrobial treatment
Stage 4: Electronic Ionizer

The stage 1 particle pre-filter helps pick up large airborne particles that enter the front grille. A washable pre-filter collects large debris and visible dust that would clog the primary filter.

This pre-filter can be periodically removed and shaken to clean. Alternatively it can be rinsed by hand under warm water.

In stage 2 combined Odor-Lock and main filter come into work. These are not separate filters. The odor layer is the front of the main HEPA-type filter.

Pre-filter should always be completely dry before inserting back into the unit. Life expectancy of any filter depends upon the concentration of contaminates going through the system.

High concentrations of contaminates such as dust, pet dander, and smoking will reduce the useful life of the filter. The primary filter is not washable.

It is recommended to clean Honeywell 16200 HEPA Clean Tabletop Air Purifier at least once a month.

Use only a dry cloth to wipe the external surfaces of the air purifier. Don’t use water, wax polish or any chemical solutions.

If your Honeywell 16200 purifier is not used for more than 30 days it is recommended to remove the Main Filter from the unit and wrap the Main Filter in an air tight plastic bag.

Honeywell 16200 Operation

Ensure the air purifier is plugged into a working electrical outlet and the Power Knob and Ionizer Knob are OFF. Start and run the air purifier on High for several minutes and then rotate the Power Knob to the desired cleaning level.

It is recommended you run your air purifier 24 hours a day to ensure continuous cleaning. Portable air purifiers are more effective in rooms where all doors and windows are closed.

To set up select a firm, level and flat location. For proper airflow, put the unit at least 3 feet (1 M) from any wall or furniture.

When operating, large volumes of air are drawn toward the air purifier. Surrounding areas should be cleaned, and/or frequently vacuumed to prevent the build-up of dust and other contaminates.

This may also help prolong the life of the filter. If the unit is placed on a light-colored carpet, a small mat or rug should be used underneath to prevent permanent staining.

This is especially important in homes with contamination from smoking or fireplaces.

Honeywell Air Purifier 16200 has an electronic filter check to remind you when to check or replace the Main filter based on the air cleaner’s hours of use.

Once a filter has reached the end of its expected life, its light will remain on until it is RESET.

You may unplug the air cleaner without interrupting the filter check. A red LED light will illuminate when it is time to change the filter. The filter is replaced with Honeywell Main replacement filter number 16216.

You should periodically check the filter. Depending on operating conditions, the filter should be replaced every six months. When the filter monitor light remains on, it is time to check/replace the Main filter and reset the filter monitor if needed.

Depending upon your individual usage (environment and hours used), you may need to check and replace the filter more or less frequently. If the Main filter is replaced before the filter monitor light turns on, the filter monitor should be reset at the same time.

Honeywell Platinum 16200 Purifier is a great investment if you only need it for a small room. For bigger or medium-sized rooms you should check more powerful air cleaners.

As it is very cheap, you could even buy a couple of them for a larger room or even split them across the entire house. They don’t call it a Desktop Air Purifier for nothing. As it is very small it will fit anywhere. It can be desk, under table, on bookshelf, etc.

Honeywell 16200 has been tested and certified for particle capture efficiency by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) program.

The highest of three fan speeds is AHAM-Certified at Dust CADR: 44, Pollen CADR: 58, Smoke CADR: 53.

These CADRs reflect very weak performance and are lower than the “70” CADR average. AHAM recommended maximum room size is 80 square feet not 100. An average 140 sq. ft. bedroom (10 by 14) is too big for Honeywell 16200.

But be careful as it can bother your lungs if you run it all the time so it is better that you turn it on or off per need because it has ionizer switch.

The best Honeywell model 16200 feature is how compact it is and how it can be used vertically or horizontally to save space. It’s also very cheap, and you could buy more of them if you intend to use it in larger spaces.

The big disadvantage is that it doesn’t use a permanent filter, so the filter will be needed to be replaced every six months. But filters are very cheap so it shouldn’t be a big cost. I would also noted that it doesn’t use TRUE HEPA filter. Purifier can be little noisy when set on high.
