Best Air Purifier Ultimate Guide

There are plenty of reasons to want to clean and purify the air in your home. Do you have a dog that leaves fur and dust everywhere? Do you live in an urban environment that is known for smog and air pollutants? Do you want to avoid second-hand smoke? Or do you just want to clean your air of odors, allergens, and germs?

For any of the concerns listed above, an air purifier can be your solution.

But the difficulty is in finding an air purifier that will be energy-efficient, have a long lifespan, and provide you with the features (and look) you want.

This list is a comprehensive look at some of the best-selling and most popular air purifiers out there and should lead you to the air purifier best suited for your home!

Levoit LV-H132 Air Purifier

About the Levoit Air Purifier

The Levoit Air Purifier is by no means a fancy machine. But at a very affordable price it will clean your air and leave your small apartment or single room feeling much cleaner, and you much healthier.

The Levoit has three layers of filters that it will run the air of your home through:

A fine filter that will trap bacteria, a HEPA filter for allergens, and a carbon filter to neutralize smells.

Now, we know the Levoit isn’t a super fancy machine. And its design and controls are simple enough.

It has 5 buttons, and includes a few simple and useful features, such as 3 different fan speed and a night light option.

Besides these features the Levoit Air Purifier doesn’t have too much else to offer. Its lifespan isn’t remarkable, and air purifying performance was about average.

Our Input

Coming from a relatively well-known brand, the Levoit Air Purifier sells pretty well on sites such as Amazon. However, we always preach that buyers should never buy a device just because they know, or generally like, the brand.

The Levoit Air Purifier is not supposed to be a top-of-the-line air purifier, but even as a budget purifier there are much better options out there.

Many have complained about the lifespan of the unit, some claiming it hasn’t even lasted them 3 months.

Others have warned about poor performance, indicating that some units might be cheaper (or less powerful) at purifying air than others.

Overall, this is a decent air purifier, but there is likely a higher performing option within a similar price range.

PARTU Air Purifier

About the PARTU Air Purifier

Speaking of high-performing air purifiers at a great price point…

Introducing the PARTU Air Purifier.

Don’t let the poorly worded Amazon page fool you, this is not some cheap foreign product.

The PARTU Air Purifier is a good-looking, above-average performing air purifier.

It is not intended for a super large space, however, so keep that in mind. The PARTU is best suited for a single small to mid-size room.

The PARTU has the same basic features as the Levoit, as well as a few additional ones.

It has the same 3 fan speeds, filter replacement button, and nightlight capability (although the nightlight has many more colour and brightness options).

But on top of that, it also has an anion device built-in, meaning that in conjunction with the HEPA filter you are receiving two levels of air purifying technology.

The PARTU air purifier is extremely quiet in operation and can function as an excellent white noise machine for a bedroom, as well as cleaning the air.

Our Input

The PARTU air purifier is another no-frills air purifier option, but that doesn’t mean it is not worth a purchase.

The PARTU is a great-looking appliance to display in a bedroom and has many useful functions.

Additionally, it is a great purifier option for a small room and will clean the air sufficiently. Some have even claimed that the PARTU worked well in larger rooms too!

For everything it offers, at this price point, the PARTU Air Purifier is our “Best Budget Pick”.

Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier

About the Winix Air Purifier

The PARTU Air Purifier has nearly nothing in common with our next product.

The Winix Air Purifier comes from a reputable, American brand, and is the first unit on this list that is made for larger rooms and spaces.

The Winix 5500-2 is a much bigger device, and services much larger spaces, and it does a great job of purifying the air, thanks to its 3-stage air purification system.

The Winix uses a carbon filter, HEPA filter, and PlasmaWave Technology to filter smells, allergens and pollutants, right down to the molecular level.

Additional features include: 4 fan speeds, sleep mode, a filter replacement indicator, and a remote control.

One additional feature, that really sets this unit apart from cheaper options, is the smart sensors and auto mode, which constantly monitor the air quality of your environment, and adjust the fan speeds when extra purifying power is necessary.

All these features can be controlled via the remote control, or from the buttons on the unit.

Overall, the performance of the Winix leaves nothing to be desired and that makes it a perfectly suitable air purifier for your home.

Our Input

The Winix is a step up from some of the earlier air purifiers we looked at. It looks like you expect an air purifier to look, and it does a respectable job of purifying air. At this price we would have liked a scheduling feature, but the smart sensor and auto mode make up for it.

One complaint we have with the Winix is its size.

Compared to many similarly performing options it seems to be one of the larger air purifiers out there.

While some buyers have complained about poor performance, or longevity, the consensus seems to be that the Winix 5500-2 is a perfectly serviceable, reliable air purifier.

Don’t expect it to wow you, but if you want a somewhat reliable, somewhat average, air purifier then the Winix is a good option.

Hathaspace Smart True Air Purifier

About the Hathaspace Air Purifier

In a similar vein to the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier is the Hathaspace Smart True Air Purifier.

Hathaspace is a brand that specializes in home wellness appliances such as air purifiers and aroma diffusers.

Their Smart True Air Purifier is in our opinion, a better alternative to the Winnix device that can sometimes be found at a more affordable price.

It comes with a similar air quality sensor, remote control, and automatic mode that will constantly monitor the air quality of your home and adjust the fan strength accordingly.

It also has the option to manually choose between 3 different fan speeds, as well as having a quiet sleep mode that dims the lights and runs at a low 18 decibel level of sound

It has an option to set it on a timer for 1-12 hours, which can be useful to let it run when you are not home. It also is designed for apartments and larger rooms (350 sqft), making it a great option for bigger rooms or a full apartment.

In addition, the Hathaspace has the option to turn on a UV light sterilizer and ionizer which will further purify the air it cleans.

The Hathaspace is a truly high-quality air purifier, thanks in part to its 4-stage filtering system.

The Nano-Cold Catalyst filter cleans large airborne dust and pet dander particles, as well as toxic household chemicals such as ammonia.

Then the carbon filter removes smoke, odor, and gases, followed by an anti-bacterial filter to remove fungi, viruses, and bacteria.

The final filter is a true HEPA filter, which similar to all the devices listed, removes a further 99.7% of airborne pollutants.

Overall, the quality of the Hathaspace is among the best on this list, and at this price point it is our “Best Value Pick” air purifier.

Our Input

The Hathaspace is a great air purifier, with few flaws.

These flaws are mostly minor flaws, such as the device being rather large, and that the device isn’t exactly the best-looking appliance to have tucked in the corner of a room.

However, the Hathaspace’s performance more than makes up for these cosmetic issues.

A great additional bonus to going with the Hathaspace is their reputation for great customer service, which makes the possibility of a defunct device much less of a headache.

You can’t go wrong with the Hathaspace Smart True, a guarantee to purify the air in your home or apartment, at a great price.

Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier

About the Coway Air Purifier

Speaking of great devices, the Coway Air Purifier is an “Amazon’s Choice” product that has garnered a ton of recommendations, and for good reason.

We were very tempted to name this one our “Best Value Pick”, and in fact if the Hathaspace doesn’t seem like the perfect device for you, this is a great alternative at a respectable price.

Coway is a brand that specializes in water, air, and body purifying devices, and they have a reputation for creating high quality machines.

The Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier is one of their more affordable air purifiers and is targeted at mid-large size rooms and small apartments (361 sqft).

It cleans thanks to a 4-stage filtration system consisting of a washable pre-filter for large particles, an odor filter, a true HEPA filter, and finally an ionizer.

One thing we liked about the Coway, more than others, was that it is a device that doesn’t look so bulky and out of place, almost resembling a sub-woofer for a sound system.

The Coway has manual buttons for fan speed, ionizer on/off, 1/4/8 hr timer, and a filter reset indicator.

The fan speed options allow the user to choose between auto mode, 1-3 speeds, and finally an eco-mode.

When the device is in auto mode, once its sensors indicate that the air is sufficiently cleaned, it will automatically switch over to eco mode, conserving energy.

One feature that we especially liked is the inclusion of a light that indicates the current quality of the air in your space, something that most other purifiers don’t have.

Performance of the Coway is about on par with the Hathaspace, and some have even claimed that the device worked in a much larger space than the advertised 361 square feet.

Overall, the Coway is a great air purifier option, and would be our second-best Value Pick.

Our Input

The Coway Mighty Air Purifier is a great device, but not without its flaws.

Many have complained about loud clicking noises from the fans, and it seems to be a common build quality issue that arises with certain units.

Another issue is that the filters can be very expensive to replace in comparison with other brands.

Customer service, while not horrible, is nowhere near comparable to the great reviews that Hathaspace receives.

While this is a great product, for a cheaper price the Hathaspace ticks all the same boxes and does so a little bit more reliably.

For those considering buying, take a look below for a full review video:

Our final product looks more like a digital picture frame than an air purifier, and it is by far the most expensive air purifier on this list.

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 Air Purifier is the “Best Overall” air purifier on the market and is our recommendation for those that take the air they breathe in very seriously.

Rabbit Air is a well-known brand that specializes in air purifiers, garnering one of the best reputations in the industry.

Their Rabbit Air MinusA2 is another incredible product to further solidify their place at the top.

To start with, the Rabbit Air Minus A2 comes with a few different options of colour and specialization. Buyers can choose between a unit that specializes as toxin absorber, odor remover, pet allergy, or germ defense.

This is a cool feature because people buy air purifiers for different reason, and knowing your device is best-suited to your specific need is something that no other purifier offers.

Another unique feature that Rabbit Air offers is customizable cases!

As seen above, Rabbit Air has choices such as Monet, Van Gogh, and even Hello Kitty!

This device is wall-mountable, and the very first product we’ve seen with that capability. This is great because it allows your device to be both out of the way, as well as visually appealing.

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 also has the most sophisticated filtration system of any unit we’ve seen.

Stage 1 is the washable pre-filter for large dust and allergen particles.

Stage 2 is a medium filter to trap and reduce airborne particles such as pet dander, pollen, or mold.

Stage 3 is a BioGS HEPA filter, as opposed to a true HEPA filter, which is advertised as being as effective as a true HEPA but with the added benefit of longevity and reduced bacteria and virus growth on the actual filter.

Stage 4 is your customized filter (toxin absorber, odor remover, pet allergy, germ defense).

Stage 5 is a charcoal filter for odors, made of a high-quality granular activated carbon.

Stage 6 is a negative Ion generator which fortifies the air you breathe and gives a ‘fresh’ feel to the environment.

6 stages of air purifying set the Rabbit Air far and away from any competition. This device’s effect is very noticeable, and easily the best of any air purifier on the market.

Additional incredible features include:

  • 815 square foot purifying space.
  • Ultra-quiet energy star rated motor
  • Smart light sensor that adjusts display dimness/brightness to light levels in room
  • Remote control
  • 2-year filter life
  • Many sensors and indicators on unit

This is the “Best Overall Pick” for any air purifier out there, without a doubt.

Our Input

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 has a solid place at the top of any air purifier list, however, is it a reasonable purchase?

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 costs around $600, that is a fair bit of change to be spending on an air purifier.

For those looking to simply clean the air in their small apartment, or single room, perhaps this is not the device for you.

This is a device better suited for someone looking to keep a large air space purified, or to tackle a problem such as smoke odor and second-hand smoke.

However, if budget is not an issue, and you want the very best air purifier, then this is without a doubt the purchase you should be making.

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 is nothing short of amazing, and because of that it’ll cost you.

Watch the video below for a more in-depth look at the Rabbit Air MinusA2:

Now that we’ve taken a look at some of the most popular air purifiers out there, the question becomes, which ones is best suited for you?

We’ve focused in on three tiers to help you decide which option is best for you.

The Budget Option – PARTU Air Purifier

Coming in at a price of under $100, the PARTU Air Purifier is a bargain to say the least.

The PARTU is one of the best-looking air purifiers that we reviewed, and it is a great device for any bedroom, thanks in part to cool features like a customizable nightlight and built-in ionizer.

While aimed at being a device for small rooms, many users have complimented the PARTU on cleaning the air in their entire small apartment!

If you aren’t sure about your purchase, or don’t need a device intended for large spaces, then the PARTU Air Purifier is our budget pick that is best suited for you.

The Value Option – Hathaspace Smart True HEPA Air Purifier

For those that want something a little bit more feature-packed, or high-performing, we believe the Hathaspace Smart True Air Purifier is a fantastic option for anyone.

The great thing about the Hathaspace is its reliability, and utility for any user.

Whether you need to clean the air in a single large room or a small apartment, the Hathaspace has you covered.

A 4-Stage filtering system, fan timers, sleep mode, a remote control, auto mode… The Hathaspace has everything you need.

Even better, it has all these features at a fairly affordable price. That’s the reason we chose the Hathaspace as the best value air purifier on the market.

The Best Overall Option – Rabbit Air MinusA2 Ultra Quiet HEPA Air Purifier

While the Hathaspace is a great machine, it still isn’t quite the best.

That honor belongs to the Rabbit Air MinusA2, an incredible device by any standard.

We especially like the ability to select a custom cover design, specific customized filter, and then the ability to mount it on the wall!

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 is an extremely high performing air purifier and is sure to leave even the largest rooms feeling fresher and cleaner.

The biggest setback with this device is the exorbitant price. Nearly $600 for an air purifier is a little crazy, even we have to admit.

However, if you’re serious about the quality of air you circulate in your home, then this is still the very best air purifier out there.

The high cost is also offset by the incredible longevity of the device and its filters compared to other units.

Overall, the Rabbit Air Minus A2 is without a doubt the best overall air purifier on the market, and if budget is of no concern, then this is the air purifier for you!
